BACKGROUND:

On January 30, 2000 Central Europe was exposed to one of the worst environmental disasters since Chernobil due to a Cyanide spill originating from Romania. Specifically, the Tisza River (in Hungary) and the Danube River (as well as other rivers in Europe) were POISONED.  Though initial destruction was caused by the cyanide flowing into the Tisza, the long-term environmental hazards of lead and other heavy metal sludge (by-products) of the “Aurul” Gold Mine are even more serious.  They affect the ENTIRE FOOD CHAIN of animal and human life – in short, THE PLANET.

On March 10, 2000 a second spill from Romania’s Aural Gold Mine DESTROYED ALL LIFE in the Tisza, and polluted many Hungarian, Transylvanian, and other European rivers to include the great Blue Danube.  Though these incidents are new, Romania has a long-standing reputation of environmental destruction throughout the past 20 years!  Romania’s catastrophic environmental situation and the careless attitude of the Romanian government regarding environmental issues must be regulated through INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS!

An ENVIRONMENTAL CATASTROPHE KNOWS NO BOARDERS. We must exemplify this issue WORLDWIDE by DEMANDING international laws, treaties and actions from our Administration and from the European Union in order to assure a life on this planet for our children BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.
